Database A method of organizing facts about people, places, or things. –A database may be the names, addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth of all the students in your class. –Used to create reports such as a list of all the birthdays in the class sorted by months of the year.

Breaking Things Down Characters-The letter, numbers and symbols break the data down into the simplest form. Fields-When characters are put together. Record-The total information about one person or object.

Why should we use database? The computer is capable of assessing records in a number of different ways. No matter how it access the records, it performs the task at a high rate of speed. This makes it cost effective for organizations of all types to purchase computerized databases.

Advantages of Computerized Databases Can find a specific file quickly; Can alphabetize and sort data faster than most people; Is as accurate as the data that is entered; Can make many different types of reports.

Who uses Computerized Databases in the real world?
