Report DC – Forming – Characterising DC Summary: This project built a lab based (large bench) simulator of a typical whole house wiring/connection system for assessing and testing conversion to ELV DC LEDs, sockets and DC loads. The system was used to test different component appliances, wiring losses on typical wiring lengths and sizes/quality, overload/fault/spark/other issues, performance and efficiency with aggregate LED and DC device loads, and also to help review against current BS standards. The project was focused around physical testing, rather than as an academic report. This document documents the test environment, initial considerations and guidelines on DC, impact on retrofitting, test results on example DC components / DC LEDs, DC component evaluation and compliance tests.
