Daily Question: Which phase happens after a full moon? Materials: Agenda Pencil Notebook/Folder Daily Objective: Today we will learn about the phases of the moon & what causes eclipses Agenda : Bell work Moon/Eclipse Worksheet Moon/Eclipse Simulation Casting Shadows Worksheet Thank you for not chewing gum or anything else

Eclipse: An event which one object in space casts a shadow on another object. Eclipses are named for what is being blocked from view. Lunar Eclipse: Earth comes directly between the Sun and a Full Moon. Resulting in the moon being darkened by the Earth’s shadow. Umbra: Smaller, inner shadow – area of total eclipse Penumbra: Larger, outer shadow – area of partial eclipse Solar Eclipse: When the New Moon comes directly between the Sun and the Earth. Part or all of the Sun is blocked from view by the Moon.
