2 nd Referee WORLD LINE-UP CARDS

USE THEM! BUT DON’T LET THEM USE YOU!

USES FOR LINE-UP CARD Check and balance between coach’s line-up, official scorebook, the team’s alignment on the court and YOU…THE 2 nd Referee! R2 must verify all three sources are correctly recorded Use to identify opposites and alignment issues Used to verify alignment for coach’s requesting line-up checks

CARD USES CONT’D Used to determine proper serving order Used to record substitutions Used to record time-outs Used to record where the libero served No need to record penalties No need to record libero replacements YOUR LINE-UP CARD IS NOT A CRUTCH!

How to use it At the start of the match, prepare 3 line- up cards for sub- varsity, 5 for varsity Benches are pre- determined by home team TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it After the captain’s meeting, mark which team serves and which team receives on all your cards TIP: - put your coin in the pocket nearest the serving team as you face the court TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it At the start of the game, record line-up on your card starting with each team’s first server TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it Team A Serving order is 5c Libero is #8 Team A is Serving first TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it Team B Serving order is 2 1c Libero is #6 Team B is Receiving first TIMEOUTS 1 2

Team A Starting Position (Serving Team) TIMEOUTS 1 2

Team B Starting Position (Receiving Team) TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it As the game progresses, mark or use a paper clip to note the current server for each team. Record subs on your card. Mark where Libero serves (if ever) TEAMA TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it 5 serves 3 points before loss of rally. At loss of rally Coach subs 10 for TEAMA TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it At the loss of rally, Team B coach has libero go to serve for #2 Put a triangle over the spot where the libero serves to note that is the only position in which the libero can serve during the game When the libero loses serve, who serves next for team A? TEAMB TIMEOUTS 1 2

How to use it Player #6 is the next server Front Row players for Team A are now 14, 10, and TEAMA TIMEOUTS 1 2

Coach/captain requesting line-up check (request should be made to R2 before R1 beckons for serve) Signal official time-out (hands on shoulders) Ask scorekeeper who last server was for the requesting team Start with that number on your card and verify proper order from there If they are not in the correct order, place them in the correct order

PENALTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIGNMENT POINT / LOSS OF RALLY PENALTY FOR IMPROPER SERVER POINT/LOSS OF RALLY Blow whistle at contact of serve, signal violation (illegal alignment). Likely will need to provide brief explanation to coach.

PENALTY FOR IMPROPER Libero Replacement prior to signal/whistle for serve First time, verbal warning * Subsequent times, delay of game PENALTY FOR IMPROPRER Libero Replacement after signal/whistle for serve POINT/LOSS OF RALLY Blow whistle right away if on your side (R1 will do so if on theirs), signal violation (illegal alignment). Likely will need to provide brief explanation to coach.

Other marks on the card Consider recording the score when the time out is called Put requesting team score first and record on the that team’s side of your line-up card During time-out Verify score sheet has same subs as you do Count and record count on your lineup card Initial score sheet at point of time-out in case we need to correct anything later

At end of game Note on next line-up card who won the previous game and the match game count You’ll be amazed how often you forget who won the previous game when you’re at in the current game

LINE-UP CARDS ARE NOT OPTIONAL!
