What’s in a Resume? A Resume should be an authentic reflection of the candidate

What’s in a Resume? Employment Objective: Section that tells your employer what you wish to achieve in this position and how you will contribute to this job (your goals, as well as your best assets)

What’s in a Resume? Summary of Skills: Contains statements of skills to match the needs of their employment. The statements must: present a relevant skill Tell a story of the student using that skill in a practical way State the results of that work or use #’s to demonstrate student capacity

What’s in a Resume? Formal Education: Have students list only their high school experiences Employment History: This area is important to help employers relate to their experiences of the student and understand their abilities.

What’s in a Resume? Personal Data: This section provides an employer with a sense of the personality of the student. Students should be clear and detailed. It is acceptable o mention positive community contributions.

Things to Remember… Name should be most prominent (Bold, Slightly Larger) Section headings should be Bold Maintain the margins of the page, and lots of white space (makes the document easier to scan) Use Clear, easy to read font in a minimum of 12 point size Two Pages Max

Take a look… In your groups, look at the different resumes. Look at the aspects in the resume you like, and aspects that you do not like. Which Resume do you prefer?
