What is Geography? Geography -the study of people and the environment

Absolute- describes a place’s exact location on earth (latitude, longitude). Relative-describing a place by describing places near it (ex. about 20 miles north of Atlanta).

Place (looks like) Physical Features- describing what a place looks like using landforms or climate (hilly or cold) Human Features- describing a place based on the people that live there ( what they do for a living, customs, population).

How people affect their environment -Examples: pollution, buildings, roads. How the environment affects people -Examples: surviving with little water, hot or cold climate effects.

People- moving from one place to another. Goods- transporting materials from one place to another (imports and exports) Ideas- exchanging ways of life between one place to another (ex. Religion/food)

(similarities) SIMILARITIES Land- a region may have similar landforms (ex. The southern US has coastal lowlands). Politics/History- a region may share a history or type of government (ex. The US shares a history and we are a democracy) Climate- a region may have a similar climate (ex. Southeast US has hot summers and cool and icy winters).
