FIGHTING HEAT STRESS 1

WHAT IS “HEAT STRESS” HEAT EXHAUSTION HEAT STROKE 2

What Are The Symptoms? Headaches, dizziness, or light-headedness  Weakness, mood changes, irritability or confusion  Nausea, vomiting, or fainting Decreased and dark-colored urine Pale or clammy skin WHAT IS “HEAT STRESS” 3 HEAT EXHAUSTION

WHAT IS “HEAT STRESS” First Aid / Emergency Response DON’T LEAVE THEM ALONE Move the person to a cool, shaded area. DON’T LEAVE THEM ALONE. If dizzy or light-headed, lay them on their back, raise legs about 6-8 inches. If sick to their stomach, lay them on their side. Loosen and remove heavy clothing. Have them drink a small cup of cool water every 15 minutes (if not sick to stomach). Cool the person such as fanning, spray mist of cool water or damp cloth. IF NO IMPROVEMENT CALL 911 4

6 WHAT IS “HEAT STRESS” What Are The Symptoms? Dry, pale skin, sweating may still be present. Hot, red skin (looks like a sunburn). Mood changes, irritability, confusion. Not making any sense. Seizures or fits, or collapse. HEAT STROKE
