Now for some history: Free People Clothing is a designer label which is part of the Urban Outfitters family of companies. It was started by Dick Hayne back in the early 1970’s in Philadelphia. His original store was called Free People. As the store grew in popularity, Dick quickly realized that his target audience was primarily young affluent urbanites, so upon opening his second store, he decided to change the name to Urban Outfitters. To meet with ever increasing demand for their exclusive Urban Outfitters brand, Dick and his wife Meg decided to launch a whole sale division of the company, which after appearing under various guises, would ultimately be named Free People Clothing once again. That was back in It was at this point in time, that Free People Clothing truly embraced their mission of appeal and nurturing to young free spirited women of courage and passion.
