MOS’s Experiment By: Sophia, Olivia, Marissa, and Amanda

Research Question: Will the plants grow better with water, iced tea or fertilizer?

Research Prediction: Our group thinks the iced tea will germinate the seeds faster because iced tea has water and caffeine in it. Plants need water to grow and we think the caffeine will help the seeds grow faster.

Experimental Design: There will be three bottle pots with a few seeds in each. All the seeds will be in direct sunlight, and they will all receive the same amount of liquid. Materials: -Planting cups -Soil -Mung beans/ soybeans -Iced tea -Water -Fertilizer

Growing Our Plants: Each day our group watered our plants with their assigned substances. We measured them every day to see how much they grew.

End Results: The mung beans that were watered with iced tea grew the most. Three of the seeds germinated. The soy beans that were watered with iced tea also germinated. The mung beans that were watered with fertilizer grew also. The soy beans that were watered with fertilizer didn’t grow. The mung beans and soy beans that were watered with plain water didn’t germinate at all.

Experimental Errors: We stirred the soil all around after we planted the seeds, which caused us to not know where the seeds were. We used pots that were too small, so we couldn’t plant the seeds deep enough.
