 Tata consultancy services Introduction: Contents Course goals Course objectives Course content Main business scenario

 Tata consultancy services Course Objectives Use the R/3 system to create WORK CENTER. Locate WORK CENTER and its related information in SAP. To understand role of WORK CENTER in production planning To create, change, display WORK CENTER in SAP At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:

 Tata consultancy services Contents WORK CENTERS CONCEPT OF WORK CENTERS IN SAP R/3. Work center data in R/3 Basic data Default values Capacity Data: Concepts  Standard available capacity  Interval of available capacity  Units of Measurement for Available Capacity

 Tata consultancy services Contents (cont..) Scheduling Data Cost center data Technical Data CONCEPT OF FORMULAE IN WORK CENTERS Formula Parameters Reporting functions in work centers.

 Tata consultancy services WORK CENTERS A work center is a place where production operations are performed. Machines, machine groups Production lines Assembly work centers Employees, groups of employees Together with bills of material and routings, work centers belong to the most important master data in the R/3 production planning and control system. Work centers are used in task list operations (routings) and integrated with Human resource management system.

 Tata consultancy services CONCEPT OF WORK CENTERS IN SAP R/3. A work center is created for a plant and is identified by a key. To each work center a work center category is assigned, that determines which data can be maintained in the work center.

 Tata consultancy services Work center data in R/3 The data is grouped thematically together in screens and screen groups. Examples of such screen or screen groups are: Basic Data Assignments (to cost centers, Human Resource Management System (HR)) Capacities Scheduling Default values Hierarchy Technical data

 Tata consultancy services Basic data In the Basic data screen the following data is maintained. Short and long texts for description of work center. Various administrative data, such as the person responsible and the location of the work center Usage type: This specifies which type of task lists the work center can be used in.

 Tata consultancy services Standard value key:Standard values are planned values for the execution of an operation and are maintained in the operation.  Eg:set-up and processing  The execution time, costs and capacities are calculated in operations using formulae from the work centers and standard values from the operations.  When a work center is assigned to an operation, up to six data fields and key words are assigned to the operation via the standard value key of the work center. Performance Efficiency Rate Key :The performance efficiency rate key is the ratio between an individual's actual output and the planned average output. This refer to standard values

 Tata consultancy services Default values You can enter default values for operation and sub- operations in work centers. The default values are then copied when you assign the work center to the operation or sub-operation. By entering default values you reduce the effort necessary in editing operations. Some of default values entered are A control key determine how an operation or a sub-operation is to be processed in a task list. Standard text. Units of measure of standard values.

 Tata consultancy services Capacity Data :CONCEPTS Capacity is the ability to perform a specific task. Capacities in work centers are distinguished by capacity categories Capacity categories are for example: Machine capacity Personnel OR labor capacity Each capacity category can be used once in each work center. For every capacity category you can maintain several available capacities.

 Tata consultancy services Standard available capacity Standard available capacity: It is capacity for each capacity category in the work center. It is valid indefinitely. It has a fixed working time  It is valid on all working days in the factory calendar, unless an interval of available capacity has been entered. Standard available capacity is used, among other things, for calculating execution time in a routing without reference to an order. Interval of available capacity: describes an available capacity that changes with time or that is based on multiple- shift operation. An interval of available capacity is an available capacity that is only valid for a certain time.

 Tata consultancy services Interval of available capacity In contrast to the available capacity, it is used to describe an available capacity based on multiple-shift operation. An interval of available capacity is based on a cycle of one or seven days. After the cycle is finished it repeats itself. Thus the following data is entered in a capacity: the operating time the available capacity Formulas for calculating capacity requirements

 Tata consultancy services Interval of Available Capacity Data  Validity period  Cycle duration :A cycle can last either a day or a week.  Maximum number of shifts per day  Shift data for every day or shift in a cycle: start, finish, break times, capacity utilization rate, number of individual capacities assigned.Data maintenance can be simplified by using shift definitions and shift sequence.  Factory working days indicator

 Tata consultancy services Units of Measurement for Available Capacity The base unit of measure for the available capacity must be a unit with dimension "time". the available capacity can be expressed in any unit for instance in "tonnes". A conversion factor must be specified, that is how many units of the new dimension correspond to a particular period of time, for instance 1 tonne  30 minutes.

 Tata consultancy services Scheduling Data Scheduling basis The scheduling basis is a capacity whose operating time is to be used for scheduling orders. Formulas formulas are used to calculate the execution times of operations in production orders using standard values Interoperation times: The interoperation time is the time between leaving one work center and beginning the operation at the next work center. It consists of the move time and the queue time before processing starts.

 Tata consultancy services Scheduling data (cont..) Interoperation times Standard queue time  Queue time that a workpiece normally waits before it is processed in the work center. Minimum queue time  Queue time that has to expire before work can continue on a workpiece. The minimum queue time replaces the standard queue time if the queue time is to be reduced for scheduling. Dimension and units of measure for internal processing operations

 Tata consultancy services Cost center data Work center is assigned to activity types. Activity types are used to describe the various forms of activity that are performed at a cost center. The activity types are used to calculate the costs for these activities.

Technical Data for Calculating Standard Values with CAPP The CAPP standard value calculation (CAPP - Computer Aided Process Planning) is a method for determining standard values. You can store data for CAPP standard value calculation in a work center. Examples of such data are machine data, rounding categories and additional value keys. You also have to assign at least one process with which the standard values should be calculated to the work center.

 Tata consultancy services CONCEPT OF FORMULAE IN WORK CENTERS Formulas are used in the work center to calculate the following data in costing, scheduling and capacity planning:  Costs  Execution times for production orders  Internal processing times for networks and maintenance orders  Capacity requirements. Relationships between work centers, routings and formulas Formulas are entered in the work center; they take their values from the work center (formula constants) and the routing (standard values, general operation data and user-defined fields.

 Tata consultancy services

Formula Parameters A formula is identified by its formula key. It is composed of formula parameters that are identified by parameter IDs. each formula parameter is assigned to a data field in the work center or routing. When the formula is evaluated, each formula parameter has the value that you have entered in the corresponding data field. EXAMPLE OF FORUMULA SAP005 = Setup * Operation splits It is defined by SAP as SAP005 = SAP_01 *SAP_11,where SAP_01 AND SAP_11 ARE Formula parameter IDs.

 Tata consultancy services REPORTING FUNCTIONS IN WORK CENTERS Where-used Lists Where-used lists show in which task lists a work center is used or in which work centers capacities are used. Change Documents Change documents log changes to data elements in a work center. Standard Reports
