Commentary Writing

Example Topic= The Great Migration Sentence 1= Topic Sentence  In the United States, One effect of World War 1 was The Great Migration. Sentence 2= Concrete Detail (Fact)  From 1914 to 1920, between 300,000 and 500,000 African Americans moved from the South to the North. Sentence 3-4= Explanation of Concrete Detail  They left their homes in the poor Rural South to seek jobs in Northern cities.  Although many African American workers did find jobs, many lived in tiny, crowded apartments in segregated neighborhoods and often experienced racial prejudice. Sentence 5-6= Transition with Commentary  The facts suggest that while African Americans left the South in search of a better life, many found themselves still living under harsh conditions.
