Cellular Respiration

Review: Producers Producers use light energy from the sun to make chemical energy (glucose).

Review: Consumers Consumers get energy from the producers. Consumers break stored chemical energy (glucose) into usable chemical energy (ATP). This is cellular respiration.

Cellular Respiration – the process of breaking glucose down to release ATP to be used for energy. Your cells use Oxygen to do this. This is why you breath. Glucose can only store energy, ATP is usable energy. Cellular Respiration happens in the mitochondria. All living things, even plants, must do cellular respiration to use the energy stored in glucose.
