Lecture Topics 1)Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms. 2)Knowledge Worker Roles. 3)Informatics and Informatics Forms. 4)Informatics Competencies. 5)Genomics. 6)Informatics Benefits.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms Healthcare informatics is the study of how healthcare data, information, knowledge, and wisdom are collected, stored, processed, communicated, and used to support the process of healthcare delivery.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 1)Data: Data are the attributes that healthcare professionals collect, organize, and name. Data elements: The individual elements in a history and physical or nursing assessment are data element. Techniques that are used to process data include: 1. Classifying. 2. Sorting. 3. Organizing. 4.Summurizing. 5. Graphing. 6. Calculating.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 2) Information: Information is a collection of data that has been processed to produce meaning.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 3) Knowledge: Knowledge is a collection of interrelated pieces of information and data.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 4) Wisdom: Knowing when and how to use the knowledge is referred to wisdom. The development of wisdom requires: 1. Empirical Knowledge. 2. Ethical Knowledge. 3. Personal Knowledge. 4. Aesthetic Knowledge.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms

Knowledge Worker Roles 1.Data gatherer: Collects clinical data. 2. Information user: Interprets clinical data and uses it to monitor patients, aids with decisions. 3. Knowledge user: Compares data to current knowledge 4. Knowledge builder: Amasses data to show patterns that can be interpreted using existing knowledge or used to create new knowledge

Informatics

Informatics Forms There are a variety of Informatics forms differ from each field : 1. Medical informatics. 2. Nursing informatics. 3. Consumer Informatics.

1. Medical informatics Application of information science and technology to: acquire, process, organize, interpret, store, use, communicate medical data in all of its forms in: medical education, practice and research, patient care and health management.

2. Nursing informatics Integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom into nursing practice.

3. Consumer Informatics Branch of medical informatics that studies the use of electronic information and communication to improve medical outcomes and the health care decision- making process from the patient/consumer perspective.

Informatics Competencies are Experienced nurse Entry level Informatics nurse specialist. Informatics nurse Informatics Competencies
