1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms Healthcare informatics is the study of how healthcare data, information, knowledge, and wisdom are collected, stored, processed, communicated, and used to support the process of healthcare delivery.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 1)Data: Data are the attributes that healthcare professionals collect, organize, and name. Data elements: The individual elements in a history and physical or nursing assessment are data element. Techniques that are used to process data include: 1. Classifying. 2. Sorting. 3. Organizing. 4.Summurizing. 5. Graphing. 6. Calculating.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 2) Information: Information is a collection of data that has been processed to produce meaning.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 3) Knowledge: Knowledge is a collection of interrelated pieces of information and data. An organized collection of interrelated information about specific topic is usually referred to as knowledge base. knowledge base can be stored and shared using a variety of media including: 1. Oral communication. 2. Textbooks. 3. Online database.

1) Healthcare Informatics & Related Terms 4) Wisdom: Knowing when and how to use the knowledge is referred to wisdom. The development of wisdom requires: 1. Empirical Knowledge. 2. Ethical Knowledge. 3. Personal Knowledge. 4. Aesthetic Knowledge.

3) Key Elements of Healthcare Informatics 1) Acquisition: Capture data taking care to strive for quality. 2) Storage: Save data so that it can be retrieved. 3) Communication: Data needs to be moved from point of collection to storage, analysis, and finally to point of use. 4) Manipulation: Data usually needs to be manipulated in some way, combined with other data, aggregated, or compared. 5) Display: How can the data be best displayed so that it can be easily understood and acted upon.

4) Healthcare Computing Personnel There are several levels and types of personnel who work in healthcare computing:  Some personnel have their primary background in computer and information science.  Others have their primary background in healthcare.  A few are prepared in healthcare informatics

4) Healthcare Computing Personnel 1)Chief information Officer: Also called Director of Information Services is administratively reasonable for the operation of the information services department. 2) System Analysts: System analysts work with user to define their information needs and design systems to meet needs.

4) Healthcare Computing Personnel 3) Programmers: Programmers design, code, and test new software programs as well as maintain and enhance current applications. 4) Systems or network administrators: Systems administrators are responsible for planning and maintaining multiuser computers system on a local area network.

4) Healthcare Computing Personnel 5) Microcomputer Specialists: Microcomputer specialists support personal computer users throughout the institution. 6) Computer Operators: Computer operators refers to an individual who actually runs a mainframe or minicomputer.
