And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man He made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Introduction Two separate creation narratives: 1.God makes man in His own image. 2.Marriage was originally God’s idea. “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 1:26)

I. Marriage was provided by God God provided for and officiated the first wedding. Your marriage was God’s idea. He has been at work in your midst as much as you have. Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” (Gen 2:18)

II. Marriage is a work done by God God makes a married couple one for His own glory. When two people get married, God takes two people and makes them one. God does a powerful and permanent work. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man He made into a woman and brought her to the man. (Gen 2:22)

III. Marriage was for mutual companionship and procreation Pattern of Creation: when children were ready to leave the home they would marry and form a new home. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Gen 2:24)
