FUTURE HEALTH INDEX We set out to find: How connected care could help address the global health challenge

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Is the world ready for integrated healthcare? Shift to value-based healthcare Care shifting to lower cost settings and homes Digitalization of healthcare Consumers increasingly engaged in their health The world is changing… Growing and ageing population Rise of chronic and lifestyle related diseases And as the new Future Health Index report proves, healthcare systems are beginning to change with it…

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Global health challenge: Healthcare systems are not ready for future healthcare needs Systems are at breaking point Key drivers of the challenge: o Significant population trends (e.g. aging populations) adding pressure on resources o Legacy systems o Resources stretched Access to healthcare across the entire health continuum Integration of health systems Adoption of connected care technology Premise of the research Research areas explored: Key audiences’ perceptions of: Is the current state of healthcare systems as fractured as we think it is? Are integrated health and connected care technology a realistic and accepted solution to the global health challenge? What are the barriers to healthcare systems realizing the benefits of this solution? Problem A solution

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Research methodology Four audiences across 13 markets: Survey of 25,355 patients Survey of 2,659 HCPs Over 300 qualitative interviews (HCPs, Insurance Professionals, Public Policy Makers) PatientsHealthcare Professionals (HCPs) Survey (MOE*: +/- 2.2%) 2,000 per market 20 mins 13 countries Survey (MOE*: +/- 6.9%) 200 per market 20 mins 13 countries 20 qualitative interviews per market Insurance ProfessionalsPublic Policy Makers Qualitative one-on-one interviews 6-10 per market 45 mins Selected markets (China, France, Japan, Netherlands, UK, USA) Qualitative one-on-one interviews 6-10 per market 30 mins Selected markets (China, France, Japan, Netherlands, UK, USA) AUSTRALIA UAE SOUTH AFRICA GERMANYSINGAPORE SWEDEN BRAZIL JAPAN THE NETHERLANDS UK USACHINA FRANCE *MOE = margin of error at 95% confidence level

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Key learnings and top level findings

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Key highlights UAE leads on positive views on the current state of integration, Japan held back by perceived lack of access to health services and a perceived lack of knowledge regarding connected care. A majority of healthcare professionals and patients overall trust their national healthcare systems, but rates of trust are low in some emerging markets (only 20% of patients and 35% of healthcare professionals in Brazil trust the system). Across the countries surveyed, younger patients and healthcare professionals alike are more likely to use, and share information from, connected technology than their older peers. Regulation can stop integration in its tracks; and trust is key. Technology is a generational issue, for both HCPs and patients The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranks highest on the FHI, Japan lowest. 76% of HCPs in developed markets agree patients have necessary access vs 58% in emerging. Emerging markets however seem to lead the way in terms of connected device adoption and anticipation of future growth. Developed markets score better in terms of access; emerging markets are blazing a trail for technology adoption

FUTURE HEALTH INDEX Key highlights 69% of patients feel they have the knowledge to manage their own health, but only 40% of HCPs agree. 74% of patients report having to repeat the same information to multiple HCPs, and 60% have also experienced repeatedly taking the same tests. Many patients also have yet to share data from connected technology with their healthcare professionals. 85% of HCPs and 69% of patients believe integration of the health system can improve the quality of care for patients. Bureaucracy is seen as a major stumbling block. 54% of HCPs and 43% of patients name health system bureaucracy as a major barrier to the further coordination of healthcare in their country. Patients and HCPs are divided about patients’ ability to monitor themselves. Data is proliferating, but doesn’t travel. Integration is viewed as worth pursuing.
