Vietnam War - one of the major military conflicts of the second half of the XX century, has left an imprint on the culture and history of Vietnam, as well as the USA and the USSR

August 5, 1964, American warplanes attacked the base torpedo boats off the coast of North Vietnam. This day is considered the first in the history of the air war in Vietnam. During the ten years prior to this event, in 1954, Vietnam was released by French colonists. In accordance with the Geneva agreement, the country was divided into two parts - North and South. In 1960, armed conflict broke out between them. For several years, he has grown into a large-scale war.

Causes of war In the north, ruled the Communist Party, led by Ho Chi Minh. The puppet government of South Vietnam stretched hands of the American military aid. So clashed interests of the USSR and the United States in Southeast Asia. US plan to encircle the Soviet Union on the perimeter of the countries that would be pro-American. They already treated, Pakistan and South Korea. Meshal North Vietnam. Without it, the Americans lost the advantage in the region.

President Kennedy ordered the troops into South Vietnam. By 1964 their number was more than 20,000 people. In February 1965, he visited Hanoi Chairman of the Council of Ministers Alexei Kosygin promised North Vietnam Soviet military aid. However, openly engage in the Soviet Union was no conflict. Therefore, the Soviet specialists, who arrived there in the spring of 1965, were held for all securities as civilians.

Under a veil of secrecy in North Vietnam Ten Soviet military centers of anti-aircraft defense forces were deployed. The main task was to prepare the missile - Vietnamese. It covered the sky, providing a win on the ground. The Americans were aware of the presence of Soviet specialists, but until then belonged to this fact graciously. The sense of impunity has passed after American planes began to stray Vietnamese ( and in fact - Soviet ) air defense. Fighting was going on a daily basis

In fact, 60 percent of Americans have fought cases, the civilian population, assuring wasting ammunition and soldat. They brutally killed everyone who met them on the way.

But the Americans reached the present position of the enemy...

During the first 9 years of the war there were about 500 air battles and shot down 350 US aircraft. Losses Vietnamese side aircraft. During this time, nearly 800 American pilots were taken prisoner. Contrary to popular legend, no one was tortured and kept in appalling conditions, and Soviet spies them up close and were not allowed. Over the entire period of the military campaign the US Air Force has lost more than 4,500 fighters and bombers. This was equal to almost half of the entire fleet of America

Army of North Vietnam almost 70 % was provided by Soviet-made weapons. Deliveries passed through China, where at that time there was a "cultural revolution". By the early '70s America began to resemble a hunted beast. Public opinion demanded to withdraw troops. The soldiers were killed by the thousands. Numerous demonstrations often ended in fights with the police. Reservists even burned their draft cards. President Nixon hesitated then gave orders to stop the bombing, then restart them. The Americans wanted to save face.

January 27, 1973 in Paris, an agreement was signed between Hanoi and Washington to cease fire. To begin the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam dead soldiers and hundreds of thousands of maimed - this is a terrible outcome of this war. On the war it took nearly $ 300 billion

The American army, considered the most powerful, was defeated.
