The Origin of Job Interviews

Interviewing All senses at work What do you want Employer needs Going to interview Dressing well is not all there is to it Pay attention to senses Review

What do you want, what do they need? – Make sure you got the right company!! Is it right for you? Make a list of your skills – Experience – Qualifications – Certifications – Knowledge Make a list of the company’s needs according to advertisements – The companies needs will be listed in the advertisement Does this match up?

Know the Employer The Company What they do? Who they serve? Past, Present, Future How can you help? Hint: Do you know someone who is currently employed there? (With a good Reputation) Look up Company : Website Facebook Twitter Local News archives

Going to Interview What should I have with me? Confidence Solid handshake Eye contact Pen Paper or notebook Resume Job Description Good Attitude “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Benjamin Franklin

I Look Good!!! What else is there? Well…..

Remember the senses? Eyes Ears Nose and Mouth

What employers don’t see is just as Important as what they do see. Looking nice is the most important part right? What does looking nice mean? Do clothes really “make the man?” If not, why? Depends on the job, right? Always at least one step ahead.

We can hear you! Or can we? Things to think about 1.Conversations you have inside and outside the building, before and after 2.During the interview be conscientious of your tone 3.Be aware of nervous habits: 1.Change or keys in the pocket 2.Clicking pen 3.Tapping on table

Speak up! Not too much! Do 1.Speak clearly 2.Answer questions when asked 3.Speak up, and with confidence 4.Answer questions precisely and honestly 5.Leave phone in car Do Not 1.Mumble, or talk into your hand. 2.Talk over the interviewer 3.Speak so softly you can’t be heard or understood 4.Give too much information or ramble 5.Look at phone for any reason

Do you have Scents? Know yourself This is not something we think about much, but whether they say something or not, people notice. Any thoughts? Cigarettes and perfume are most common People process alcohol differently, this scent stays on many people longer than you think Pets Body odor

Review Preparation is key Know your employer Know your needs Your interview starts when you wake up Introduction is key Know yourself, be aware of the little things All senses are a go!!!

The Pursuit of Happyness

“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” Thomas Jefferson
