TDR and R&D Plans J. Seeman and M. Biagini For Super-B Staff

Super-B Working Meetings July 2008 MiniMAC Meeting at LNF-INFN October 2008 working meeting at SLAC (with ICFA seminar) January 2009 working meeting at SLAC February 2009 Super-B general meeting at Orsay France February 2009 “Component Reuse” engineering meeting SLAC April 2009 MiniMAC Meeting at LNF-INFN June 2009 General meeting Perugia Italy October 2009 General meeting SLAC December 2009 General meeting LNF-INFN

Coordination of Accelerators for Super-B Each geographical region appointed a person as the Super-B accelerator coordinator. –M. Biagini INFN Italy –M. Sullivan USA –A. Variola France –E. Levichev Russia –G. Bassi UK The central project administration will arrange the proposals, assignments, and requests into a general overall coordinated package in consultation with the regional coordinators. The approved proposals and requests will be periodically reviewed for effectiveness.

Future Looking TDR Super-B Accelerator Collaboration We have an international collaboration with about 10 institutions. The following personnel tables are related to areas of technical and scientific work and do not include administrative staff. The overall FTE levels are about: –INFN LNF: 8 –SLAC: 4.9 –France: 2.7 –Russia: 3.0 –UK: 0.2

Italy It is anticipated that the Lazio Region (near Rome) will contribute money (~ 5 MEuro/year for 3 years) for Super-B TDR work, summing over all topics. The Super-B accelerator effort will receive some of these funds that will go, with high level approval, to accelerator staffing and some hardware tests and studies.

USA: Super-B Project Contribution Progress has been made in developing a US role for future contributions: –For the detector in the areas of particle identification, calorimetry, and computing. –For the collider in the areas of IR and lattice design; polarization; Diagnostics, RF and longitudinal feedback systems, Reuse of “in kind components”. Present staffing level is at about 4-5 FTE each in accelerators and detectors. The hope is to grow to about FTE in each detectors and accelerator, once the project becomes advanced.

Potential Hardware Projects Vacuum: Ship a PEP-II HER chamber to LNF-INFN to be rebuilt with new pumps and, perhaps, a TiN coating. IR: Build prototype QD0/QF1/Soln magnet. IR: Build prototype IR chamber(s) with magic flange. Arc: Build prototype extruded aluminum arc vacuum chamber for each drift, quad, dipole. Feedback: Build a 2 nsec digital feedback processor with appropriate number of digital bits. Vibration: Build an active damping system for an IR quadrupole.

Potential experimental studies ECI: Observe/participate in DAFNE and CESR-TA studies. Low emittance tuning: Observe/participate in PETRA-3 studies. Feedback: Observe/participate in PETRA- 3 or CESR-TA studies

Highest Priority Today Staff for optics/lattice work. Staff for vibration/stability work Staff for IP engineering Staff for impedance reduction

Conclusions TDR planning and work have started. Update and expand the CDR document. Produce a preliminary version by early fall. Have a finished document in 18 months. 70+ collaborators have agreed to help but most part time. Near term must get these new people working on their respective topics. Strong hope to hire some new people to produce/complete the TDR.
