The Catholic School : Developing in Faith Making Links Companions on the Journey

Aims To explore how ‘The Catholic School: Developing in Faith’ is integrated into the normal processes of self-evaluation within a school; To demonstrate useful links between HGIOS 4 and ‘The Catholic School: Developing in Faith’; To examine the usefulness of ‘Companions on the Journey’ in identifying the developing CLPL needs of staff in a Catholic School; To ensure a balance between the needs of a school and the CLPL needs of the individual.

The Catholic School : Developing in Faith A Reminder The purpose of this document is to encourage and assist staff in Catholic schools to engage in professional reflection, discussion and action which will help their schools to develop as communities of faith and learning. “Catholic ethos... means that the life of faith needs to be the driving force behind every activity in the school, so that the Church’s mission may be served effectively, and young people may discover the joy of entering into Christ’s being for others.” (Pope Benedict XVI, St Mary’s College Twickenham, 17 th September 2015

Companions On The Journey “Educating is not a profession but an attitude, a way of being. In order to educate, it is necessary to step out of ourselves and be among young people, to accompany them in the stages of their growth and to set ourselves beside them. Give them hope and optimism for their journey in the world. Teach them to see the beauty and goodness of creation and of man who always retains the Creator’s hallmark. But above all with your life be witnesses of what you communicate.” Pope Francis [Address to the Students of the Jesuit Schools of Italy and Albania (June 7, 2013).Address to the Students of the Jesuit Schools of Italy and Albania (June 7, 2013). A strategic approach to helping teachers in Catholic schools to be wise and faithful companions to young people as they learn and grow. Designed to help teachers to develop in wisdom and faith. Aims to assist teachers to respond to their vocation to teach, at every level in a Catholic school.
