EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 …

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING Exhortations From 1 Cor 1:4-10

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re Enriched v. 5  “To make rich; be richly furnished”  Man is “made rich” in numerous ways  No man will ever be “enriched” more than by being in Christ Eph 3:8 Col 2:2-3 Mt 6:19-20

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re Enriched v. 5  God “enriches” saints to help them wait for the return of His Son  Context Ù spiritual gifts chs  Despite not possessing these “gifts, ” we can still make some use of what is taught in this passage

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re Enriched v. 5  God “enriches” saints to help them wait for the return of His Son  “In all speech (utterance) ”  Our words need to be graceful, soothing Col 3:8 4:6  We speak words of truth Eph 4:25

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re Enriched v. 5  God “enriches” saints to help them wait for the return of His Son  “In all speech (utterance) ”  We speak words of thanks Eph 5:4  We speak words of encouragement Heb 3:13-14

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re Enriched v. 5  God “enriches” saints to help them wait for the return of His Son  “In all knowledge”  The understanding of His will  Something in which we need to grow 2 Pet 3:18

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re To Be Blameless v. 8  A challenge!! Rom 3:23 1 Jn 1:8  “That which cannot be called into account, as in the Day of Judgment” Eph 5:26-27  All are in need of God’s “confirmation” 2 Tim 2:19

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re To Be Blameless v. 8  All are in need of God’s “confirmation” 2 Tim 2:19  “To establish or make sure; steadfast”  It is to be “to the end” or waiting all the way throughHeb 12:1-2 Phil 3:12-15

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re To Be In Fellowship v. 9  A joint association; a partnership or participation with others  Partners with God 1 Jn 1:3, Jn 9  Our “commonality with Christ” refers to our acceptance of His will (walking in His light)

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re To Be United v. 10  Being with someone (a “partner” ) doesn’t necessarily mean we’re “united”  A group awaiting the same thing can be overrun with selfishness vv  This cannot be allowed to happen with disciples of Christ

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 We’re To Be United v. 10  The challenge of having & maintaining “unity” is communication  There can be no divisions  We must all “speak the same thing”  We discourage party divisions  We mature in mind & judgment

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 Some Concluding Thoughts…  Emphasis is not just that we “wait”…we must “ eagerly wait” v. 7  A wait with anticipation, excitement  A wait absent of drudgery, indifference  If “waiting” is boring, problematic... the fault is ours, not God’s

EAGERLY AWAITING THE LORD’S COMING 1 Cor. 1:4-10 Some Concluding Thoughts…  What kind of “waiter” are you??  Impatient? – You could grow weary & give up  Eager? – You are busy with what He has provided you while Christ delays  It takes faith & determination to “wait” for Christ to come back
