 Gum disease is the swelling, pain or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth.  Gingivitis & periodontal disease are two types of gum disease.

 Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums while Periodontitis means inflammation around the tooth.  Both are a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue & bone that supports the tooth.

 Periodontal diseases are infections of the structures around the teeth  These include the gums, the cementum that covers the root and the alveolar bone.  In the earliest stage of periodontal disease the infection affects only the gums.  Diseases are the causal cause of tooth loss in adults & children.

 Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums.  In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily.  It is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing & flossing.

 Gum disease is mostly caused by improper oral hygiene which allows bacteria in plaque and calculus to remain on the teeth and infect the gums.  But there are other factors that increase the risk of developing gingivitis.  Risk factors :  Hormonal changes in females  Diabetes  Cancer  Genetics

 Red or swollen gums  Tender or bleeding gums  Painful chewing  Loose teeth  Sensitive teeth

 The finest way to treat gum disease is to practice good oral hygiene, although additional dental and medical treatments are occasionally essential.dental and medical treatments  These treatment are two types surgical & Non surgical.  Depending on the stage of disease the treatment is applied.

 Non-surgical Treatments for Gum Disease Includes  Professional dental cleaning  Scaling and root planning  Surgical Treatments for Gum Disease Includes  Flap surgery/pocket reduction surgery  Bone grafts  Soft tissue grafts  Guided tissue regeneration
