Sophists Blended philosophy, politics, opportunism and cynicism Wandering educators and spin-meisters Little known except from Plato (who hated them) Not dealt with Truth, Beauty, Logic, etc. (instead, more pragmatic notions)

Protagoras Not interested in spiritual matters “Man is the measure of all things.” –Relativism is key (no Universal Truths) Apathetic view towards gods –Since can’t really know if exist, then not important for daily life (so forget about them)

Gorgias Nihilist –Nothing exists –If anything did exist, you couldn’t know about it. –If something existed and you knew about it, you couldn’t communicate that awareness to others
