Content National agenda TAFE NSW COAG Projects Recognition in TAFE Things we do right …and wrong A model to streamline processes

The COAG Agenda aims to increase RPL Recognition is fully funded for positive and negative outcomes Recognition targets have become a reality additional workers should gain Recognition over next 4 years (election commitment) National Agenda

TAFE NSW has three COAG funded projects ( ) 1.Virtual RPL website 2.Skills Express project for skills assessments in a range of trade areas 3.TAFE/DET NSW Professional Development Project TAFE NSW COAG Projects

Recognition Experience and Learning Illawarra, Hunter Institutes and ICVET June 2009 end date State of Recognition Workshops and ongoing activities aimed at TAFE staff and industry Seeking input from stakeholders about the Stage II and III phases State of Recognition Project

What great Recognition skills and expertise do we already have? What resources do we have? What systems do we have? What issues do we have? Stage I – The State of Recognition

Recognition in TAFE TAFE NSW Credit Transfer National Recognition Pre-arranged RPL Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Commercial RPL Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)

Things we do right… TAFE SCIS (records management system) is the best in the world TAFE NSW leads the states in Credit Transfers Great kits, tools, brochures E.g. Illawarra brochures, website and postcards 13 years of Institutes and Curriculum Centre experience in assessing, creating advanced standing arrangements and preparing Recognition resources

…and wrong Can be slow Sometimes atomistic in our approach Possible mismatch of assessment and AQF standard Shift from “Teacher” to “Trainer” mentality

A model to streamline processes Overview Recognition upfront –Video + handout + postcards –Websites, Kits –Self – service (HSC/TAFE, Course Credit Estimate, etc)HSC/TAFECourse Credit Estimate RPL –Skills Express –ProveIT!ProveIT!
