Moses Austin First American to work with the Spanish government to settle Americans in Texas

Erasmo Seguin Helped Moses Austin obtain approval from Spanish officials to settle American colonists in Texas

Stephen F. Austin First American to settle Americans in Texas/Mexico. He settled 300 families and was known as an empresario. This led to the colonization of other places in Texas/Mexico

The Old Three Hundred First 300 families to settle in Texas/Mexico brought by Stephen F. Austin

Location of American Colonization in Texas Looking for fertile land, lots of water, natural resources, and mild climate

Reasons for moving to Texas Stephen F. Austin offered them good farm land at a cheap price. This was an opportunity for a fresh start in a new place.

Requirements to live in Mexico 1. Must convert to Catholicism 2. Must become a Mexican Citizen 3. Must be of good, moral character
