Orthographic to Isometric Banff Academy

Drawing the Plan and Elevations Here are three views of an object. Seeing this shape in 3D is not easy, this tutorial aims to help you with this.

Drawing a crate The first step is to draw a box or crate to the same dimensions as the outside of the object. If you forget this then you will get into difficulty.

Cutting out parts of the crate The obvious parts of the crate that need to be removed are dealt with first. Look at the Elevation, the top left hand corner is empty space and can be removed from the crate

Cutting out parts of the crate The first part to be removed has now gone.

Removing more parts from the crate The Plan view has a part that may be removed.

Drawing the Plan This is the Plan view of the simulation

Drawing the Elevation This is the Elevation view of the simulation, the hidden line is drawn as a yellow line.

Drawing the End Elevation This is the End Elevation view of the simulation, the hidden lines are drawn as yellow lines.

The Isometric Projection This is the Isometric Projection, all measurements are taken from the Orthographic Drawing and lines are drawn at 30° from the horizontal using a set square. It gives the effect of 3D but without perspective so measurements taken from it are accurate.
