6 The Basic Structure of the CPTD System Principals and deputy principals engage in three kinds of SACE Endorsed Professional Development (PD) activities / programmes: o Teacher initiated activities (Personal) o School initiated activities (School) o Externally initiated (offered largely by the SACE approved providers) They have to earn their Professional Development Points from each of the three types of Professional Development Activities

The Basic Structure of the CPTD System SACE will allocate professional development (PD) points to educators’ professional development activities according to a schedule of PD Points approved by SACE Type 1 and Type 2 (Pre-Determined PD Points - Educators Guide) Type 3 (Points allocated through endorsement process – catalogues / database) Each educator will be expected to achieve 150 PD points on their PD points Account in every three year cycle. 7

The Basic Structure of the CPTD System SACE will issue a Certificate of Achievement to each educator who achieves the 150 PD points within the three years as follows: Bronze Certificate of Achievement to each educator who achieves 150 PD points within the three years. A Silver Certificate of Achievement to each educator who achieves 150+ to 300 PD points within the three years. A Gold Certificate of Achievement to each educator who achieves 300+ PD points within the three years. 8

Professional Development Portfolio Recording will be done in the Professional Development Portfolio (PDP) for Principals and Deputy Principals PDP Guidelines – Soft copy (SACE website) Templates (Online / Offline copies / Soft copy – SACE website) CPTD System / PDP Annual Process Linked to the IQMS Process PDP – Monitoring Tool 9

Professional Development Portfolio 2014 / 2015 / 2016 Planning –Needs Identification - IQMS /ANA /NSC / Reflection –System level priorities – ISPFTED, WSPs/NSDS, ANA, NSC, Minister’s Delivery Agreement, NDP, New national priorities) –PGP/SIP (Type 1 / Type 2) –DIP/PIP/NIP (Type 3) –Overlaps (Type 1, 2, 3) 10

Professional Development Portfolio Recording –Participation in endorsed type 1, 2, 3 PD Activities –Reflection –Evidence of Performance –SACE expects educator to record their points honestly. Dishonest reporting is unprofessional conduct. It may also be a breach of SACE’s Code of Professional Ethics –This information may also be used for the IQMS processes and other related processes in the education system 11

Professional Development Portfolio Reporting Educators will report their participation in Professional Development twice a year manually on a form prescribed by SACE or electronically on the CPTD self-service portal – May to June and October to November In May/June and October/November a principal will request staff members to report their PD points for the semester on a simple form supplied by SACE or electronically. 12
