Contribution of Civil Society for Health for All How and where does the project fit within the country specific contexts?

1. Brief to the country context – main health and health sector related changes and challenges Universal health system (SUS) Public x Private (challenge): private insurance as commodities (40 million, international companies) Family Health Strategy (large scale): 95% municipalities, 56% population – main problems: infrastructure, organization and quality of care New programs for expansion of PHC (Mais Médicos, outreach to remote and vulnerable areas – doctors distributed throughout Brazil according to vulnerabilty criteria) New programs for expansion and PHC-oriented medical training Management and financial challenge: 200 million inhabitants, more than 5,000 municipalities – leading to privatizing management of HRH Challenge to retain Family Health teams, especially doctors and CHWs

-Development model based on extrativism, agribusiness. -Stagnation of land reform. -Improvements in health conditions and social aspects but with limitations, no actual transformation on development model, remains with neoliberal orientation. Source: Brazilian Bureau of Statistics
