Business Continuity Management Business Continuity Management (BCM) is a holistic management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an organisation and provides a framework for building resilience and the capability for an effective response that safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value creating activities

Why BCM ? The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 Part of a single framework for civil protection in the United Kingdom capable of meeting the challenges of the twenty-first century. Focuses on local arrangements for civil protection, establishing a statutory framework of roles and responsibilities for local responders Requirement to ‘put in place business continuity management arrangements’

Business Continuity Strategy, ‘Towards Resilience’, which set out a programme for building and embedding resilience into its business processes Corporate Business Continuity Plan outlining the actions the Council will take should a disruptive event significantly affect its ability to deliver its services South Tyneside Councils Response

Invocation of the Plan During office hours - the responsibility of an appropriate Head of Service. Out of office hours - activation is through the existing emergency response arrangements, via Barrington Street Customer Safety Support and Security, from where an appropriate Head of Service will be assigned to act as Business Continuity Coordinator

Roles and Responsibilities Business Continuity Coordinators - identify the extent and severity of the disruptive event & decide on the initial course of action to take Executive Team provide the overall strategic direction for the Council Directorate Management Teams fulfil the tactical response role and set the priorities for their respective Directorates Service Managers, who will be responsible for invoking service continuity plans and providing Directorate Management Team with situation updates.

Roles and Responsibilities Employee Support and Development- Staff welfare Asset Management – provision of alternate site Communications - critical element ensuring that information is clearly communicated to staff, Members, the community and the media.
