Presentation transcript:

Personal Power 6: Changing your belief system

 The power to change your life is the ability to take consistent actions  Ultimate success formula  Role modeling  Pain and pleasure  Neuro-associative conditioning/anchoring  What do you really want: the state of mind  Control the physical body and mental focus  Power of asking questions  Values and beliefs Quick Review:

 Identify the core beliefs which stop you from achieving your goals  Link massive pain to the limiting beliefs (by actually FEELING the consequences of the present behavior)  Create new beliefs (There is no absolutely correct beliefs. What really matters is whether the beliefs are useful.)  Link massive pleasure to the new beliefs  Create positive neuro-association/anchor Steps for changing your beliefs:

 Is doing this really so easy? Can you teach an old dog new tricks?  Yes, just like in computer coding. If you change the program, you change the output.  It is hard if you don’t want to or don’t know how to change the file.  Even if it didn’t work a moment ago, it may work now if you try something new. (The past does not equal the future.)

 Tomas Edison’s example.  The past does not control the future. What you do now controls the future!  The past is just a reference, and is not necessarily an accurate one.  Another useful belief: There is always a way.  Useful question: What should I do to make things work?

 Core beliefs are the most essential in life.  What are the two main beliefs that are limiting your achievement?  I am too young. I don’t have insufficient money or background.  Write down those limiting beliefs now.

 Let’s start to change now!  First, you have to be willing to feel the pain associated with the old belief.  Then you will be motivated to change.  Strengthen the new beliefs by neuro- conditioning.

 Take a deep breath, and exhale slowly.  Close your eyes.  Think of the two limiting beliefs.  Imagine how much they weigh on your body and in your life.  What have them caused you? What have you been losing/missing because of these beliefs?  Think deeply, and feel the loss. If you can’t feel it, you are just wasting your time.

 Have these beliefs caused you to lose the chance to win a competition?  Have them caused you to lose the chance to date someone you really like?  Did these beliefs keep you from taking some risks to go for it?  How did they lower your self-esteem?  Did they create doubts or strength?  Do you feel powerful or weaker by having these beliefs?  Did they create energy or take away energy?

 What would you say to yourself when you realize you let these beliefs control you?  Feel it! Feel the weight which pulls you down and feel the pain.  How does it affect you spiritually?  How does it affect your relationship?  Think of all the causes: physically, financially, socially, emotionally, spiritually,… all the areas in your life.

 Now, take a step of 5 years into the future, and bring these limiting beliefs with you.  These limiting beliefs are like snowballs getting bigger and bigger.  Bring all the pain, anger and frustration generated by these beliefs with you for 5 years.  Imagine looking yourself in the mirror. How does your face look with all the bad feeling for 5 years?  What’s the price you pay? Do you look younger or much older? Energized or totally weakened?

 How do you feel about your self-esteem without changing these beliefs for 5 years?  What have them caused you physically? Have you given up on staying fit and gain much more weight?  Have you started smoking/drink or taking drugs just because you want to forget about the pain?  What have you missed out on your career with these limiting beliefs? How about relationships?  Feel it! Don’t just think about it. Feel the feelings of paying the price for 5 long years!

 How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 5 long years?  What are the things that you should have done but you haven’t because of the fear caused by these limiting beliefs?  What have they caused for your whole life for 5 years?  What would you say to yourself, with these limiting beliefs controlling your life?

 Now, step into the future 10 years from now, and drag 10 years of disappointment with you.  Ten years of failure building one on another.  Ten years of these limiting beliefs like snowballs getting bigger and bigger coming toward you.  Bring all the pain, anger and frustration generated by these beliefs with for 10 years.  Imagine looking yourself in the mirror. How does your face look with all the bad feeling for 10 years?  What’s the price you pay? Do you look younger or much older? Energized or totally weakened?

 Does your body feel lighter or much heavier?  What would you say to yourself with all these pain for a decade, 10 years?  What have you given up? How much have you missed?  How much frustration and anger for these 10 years?  Have you already given up the kind of passion and relation you desired 10 years ago?

 Who is in your life? Who wants to be in your life?  How do your friends and other people think of you? Do you even have friends?  How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 10 long years?  What has been the price of having these beliefs? Feel it! Feel the pain and make it a real experience!

 Now, step into the future 20 years from now, and drag 20 years of disappointment with you.  Bring all the pain, anger and frustration generated by these beliefs with for 20 years.  Twenty years of failure building one on another.  Think of all the things you have given up on for 20 years! All the things you have missed!  Look yourself in the mirror. How would you look with all the bad feeling for 20 years?  What’s the price you have paid?

 Does your body feel lighter or much heavier?  Do you look younger or much older? Energized or totally weakened? More excited or extremely disappointed?  What would you say to yourself with all these pain for a decade, 20 years?  How much frustration and anger for these 20 years?  What have these limiting beliefs caused your business for 20 years? Do you even have any business?  Have you already given up the kind of passion and relation you desired 20 years ago?

 How do your friends and other people think of you? Do you even have friends?  How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 20 long years?  What would you say to yourself with this kind pain and frustration for 20 years?  Was it worth it having a life like this?  What has been the price of having these beliefs? Feel it! Feel the pain and make it a real experience!  Are you willing to live in this way for any longer? Is this your destiny?

 Now, come back to the present time.  Open your eyes and feel that you are in the classroom right now, right here.  Take a deep breath again.  Get out of that painful state completely.  Do you feel much relieved because none of those has happened yet?  You may also feel lighter and stronger because the pain you just went through has gone.  None of those has to happen if you make some changes right now.

 It is just like waking up from a nightmare. Thank God none of those has happened!  Now, you should be very much motivated to change those old limiting beliefs.  The old pattern has been interrupted, and your brain is looking for a new pattern now.  Stand up and move in a totally energized way!  Make yourself feel excited!

 Now, think of some new beliefs which will drive you to move forward.  For example, if you thought “I am too young”, now you can think “I am young and full of potential and possibilities!”  Think of something that empowers you.  Write down 2 new beliefs to replace the old ones.

 Next, we will install the new beliefs.  Take a deep breath and close your eyes.  Step 5 years into the future. Notice the positive and powerful impact on you with these new beliefs.  Where are you, and what achievements you have got after 5 years of living with these beliefs?  How much fun do you have?  Stack all the successes you have made for 5 years with these beliefs. How is your confidence and self-esteem?

 Look at yourself in the mirror.  Do you see yourself smiling? Do you feel younger and more energized?  How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 5 years?  What is the influence on people around you because of your positive attitude?  What would you say to yourself?  Feel the feelings! Feel them now!

 Now, step 10 years into the future.  Feel the success and pride these new beliefs have brought you for a decade!  Look at yourself in the mirror.  Do you see yourself smiling? Do you feel younger and more energized?  How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 10 years?

 Now, step 20 years into the future.  Feel the joy and power these new beliefs have brought you for two decades!  Look at yourself in the mirror.  What would you say to yourself?  Do you see yourself smiling? Do you feel younger and more energized?  How much have they caused you financially, emotionally, and socially for 20 years?  How good will this feel for living in this way for 20 years? Feel it!

 Now, decide on what kind of life you want!  Feel the excitement about your future!

Homework  Write down what your old beliefs were and what the consequences have been or would have been for all your life. This will remind yourself of the leverage that will guide you in maintaining your new beliefs.  Write down how your two new beliefs will enhance the quality of your life now and 10 and 20 years from now.
