In 1928 Henry Ford’s River Rouge Plant in Dearborn, Michigan became the world's largest industrial complex, pursuing vertical integration to such an extent that it could produce its own steel. Strategic Doing provides the “simple rules” that enable people to form action-oriented collaborations quickly, move them toward measurable outcomes, and make adjustments along the way.

Kokomo, Indiana

Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development - Designed & guided 60+ collaborations - Over 100 partner organizations - Tracked over 200 metrics - Hired 2.5 people to manage it all - 80% of initiatives sustained

Kokomo, Indiana 2008 = One of the Fastest Dying US Cities 2014 = One of the Fastest Growing US Cities

In neighborhoods besieged by complex, wicked problems, Strategic Doing creates hope through the power of taking action with the assets or gifts that we already possess. In that moment when we combine assets, we begin to tell a new story of opportunity and possibility, and it gives us the power to change our lives, our neighborhoods, and our communities. Bob Brown, Flint Resident University-Community Partnerships Michigan State University

We finally broke our “grant addiction.” Flint Community Resident

Three of the proposals that emerged out of the Strategic Doing workshop were selected to move forward in the IU Grand Challenges initiative! That is out of a total of just 5 selected by the committee from 22 submissions university wide. Strategic Doing clearly paid major dividends for us. Jeff White, Ph.D., Director Integrated Program in the Environment

Initiatives Launched

The Strategic Doing (SD) approach might be one of the most effective ways of implementing change on campus. It effectively replaces strategic planning, a traditional pathway. At UW- Milwaukee, we have been able to move forward ten projects related to I&E transformations of curricula and institutional culture using SD. It is outcome driven, but more importantly, it is adaptive. Our diverse team of faculty and administrators have pivoted many times because of the continuous feedback that we analyze and plug back in into the decision making process. Ilya V. Avdeev, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering Founder, UWM Student Startup Challenge (SSC) Director, Advanced Manufacturing and Design Laboratory (AMDL) University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

In today's collaborative management culture Strategic Doing offers a tool that allows team members to advance ideas to implementation quickly. The Strategic Doing process selects ideas to which each member contributes and the results are potentially as powerful as experienced with Lean Management. Janyce Fadden, VP/General Manager (retired) Portescap/Danaher Motion

Strategic Doing: The Game

Imagine that by the end of the semester our team was able to draw upon our respective strengths to successfully design, build and deploy an engineering project that addressed a real need in our community. What would that look like?
