Presentation transcript:

Effects Of Artificial Tiffani Steenson 1 st hour

"The damage caused by 30 minutes spent in a tanning bed is equivalent to the damage caused by a full day of sun exposure."

Artificial tanning causes harmful effects to a person’s body and to society.

BACKGROUND

UV radiation emitted by tanning beds can have serious effects Skin Cancer and Cataracts Emits double the amount of UV radiation

CAUSES

Exposure to UV Rays is the main cause

“What was once thought of as a healthy glow, a tan may now mean eye damage, wrinkles, or melanomas.” “Using tanning beds before the age of 30 increases the risk of skin melanoma by 75%.”

EFFECTS

Effects on people and society “Damage to the immune system and a higher risk for cataracts may also occur from indoor tanning.” “Many people have been influenced by the media on the idea of artificial tanning. An example of this would be the cast of the famed show, Jersey Shore.”

SOLUTIONS

Many towns have passed laws that raise the minimum age for being allowed into a tanning salon to 18 or 19.

“More people are discouraging others from using sunbeds and sunlamps.” More doctors and other significant figures are warning people about the harmful effects of artificial tanning. Telling more people to be careful and to check into your own tanning salon to make sure it is as safe as it can be.

CONCLUSION

Artificial tanning has a big impact on society and can be harmful to a person’s body. Now more people can warn others and advise them to not artificially tan or to be careful if they do. The next steps would be to somehow find a safer device for indoor tanning that won’t have any negative effects. Future citizens can be more careful when it comes to tanning. Law-makers can do more to ensure a safer experience for individuals who want to tan.
