In 1923, tanning appeared in Vogue magazine by mistake. French designer, Coco Chanel left his vacation on a yacht with a healthy looking bronzed tan. She claimed she just stayed in the sun too long. Little did she know that became a trend. The early fifties saw the bikini, which made more people desire for that all over tan look. Then, in the seventies, eighties and early nineties, more and more people were eager to create their tan. In the eighties, tanning salons began to appear. In the nineties, tanning salons became a growth industry.
