It is a referral system that enables the school to highlight pupils who may require additional support during the transition from school to college. The pupils are also provided with additional on-course support to ensure they complete the qualification. BEST CHANCE What is it?

Response to: More Choices, More Chances: A Strategy to Reduce the Proportion of Young People not in Education, Employment or Training in Scotland Scottish Government Report “Looked After Children – We Can and Must do Better (2007)” BEST CHANCE Why was it set up?

Set up in February 2008 Four Project Workers 24 hours per week Target number of pupils was 24 Target group with eligible criteria decided BEST CHANCE When was it set up?

Looked after young people Pupil unable to sustain a full time place in school Pupil seriously affected by drugs or alcohol Pupil affected by a recent family upset e.g. bereavement BEST CHANCE What does Eligible Criteria mean?

Schools sent Referral Forms and an Information Sheet which details the Eligible Criteria and Date for submission School sends the Referral Form along with application for Full Time Course Project Worker assigned to the Pupil BEST CHANCE How does it operate?

They offer a bridge between the school (or other location) and their next step into college Relationship Building They work with Tutors and Learning Support Staff to ensure appropriate Individual Learning Plans are put in place BEST CHANCE What is the Project Worker Role? Pre-Course
