W HAT IS A NETWORK ? A computer network is a group of computers that are connected to each other for the propose of communication.

T YPES OF NETWORKS.The three basic type s of networks include: LAN,MAN AND WAN.

A NOTHER TYPES OF NETWORKS LAN - Local Area Network WLAN - Wireless Local Area Network WAN - Wide Area Network MAN - Metropolitan Area Network SAN - Storage Area Network, System Area Network, Server Area Network, or sometimes Small Area Network CAN - Campus Area Network, Controller Area Network, or sometimes Cluster Area Network PAN - Personal Area Network DAN - Desk Area Network

L OCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN) A network is said to be local area network if it is confined relatively to a small area. It is generally limited to a building or geographical area, expanding not more than a mile apart to other computers.

M ETROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN) It cover larger geographic areas, such as cities. Often used by local libraries and government agencies often to connect to citizens and private industries.

W IDE AREA NETWORK (WAN) It connect larger geographic areas of the world. In this type of network dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks may be used.
