3. LAN (Local Area Network)

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network covering a small geographic area, like a home, office, or group of buildings e.g. a school.
LANs may have connections with other LANs via leased lines, leased services, or by 'tunneling' across the Internet using VPN technologies.
Larger LANs are characterized by their use of redundant links with switches

4. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
A Metropolitan Area Network is a network that connects two or more Local Area Networks together.
But it does not extend beyond the boundaries of the immediate town, city, or metropolitan area.
Multiple routers, switches & hubs are connected to create a MAN.

5. WAN (Wide Area Network)
A WAN is a data communications network that covers a relatively broad geographic area (i.e. one city to another and one country to another country).
WAN often uses transmission facilities provided by common carriers, such as telephone companies.
WAN technologies generally function at the lower three layers of the OSI reference model: the physical layer, the data link layer, and the network layer.
