What can this teach us about our own children? Be careful about applying labels - avoid stereotypes Remember, the point is to help us experience our children’s essential selves Allow this to expand YOUR awareness Can allow us to be more accepting of styles People are far more than the categories Change is CONSTANT - think about how you changed (age, experiences)

A little about each style………………. Perfectionist - does chores without reminded, know it all attitude, tries to control other children (not bullying), takes school VERY seriously Helper - gets feelings hurt easily, attracted to those with problems and enjoys giving advice, likes to be with others rather than alone Achiever-Performer - perseveres to get things done, fits well in social scene, has many abilities and interests, seems optimistic/confident most of time Artist-Romantic - feelings easily hurt, wants to be seen as special and unique, has or wants to have lots of dress-up clothes, enjoys arts or may collect treasures, may seem depressed or melancholy at times

Observer/Thinker- has a quiet or shy personality, likes to be alone, may get lost in reading or other interest, whimsical sense of humor, may be uninterested in social norms Questioner/Loyalist - worries about safety more than most, reacts in unpredictable or contradictory ways at times, tries to entertain/please, tries to get others to like him/her, compassion for people who suffer Adventurist/Enthusiast - wakes up and falls asleep happy (most of time), likes to be the “star,” makes lots of friends, likes to tell stories and jokes, lots of curiosity Asserter/Leader - rules other children, always makes his/her presence known, speaks and acts with authority, behaves enthusiastically, shows anger freely Peacemaker - likes to watch TV, computer or hang out at house, inspires to call him/her sweet or accepting, gets feelings hurt easily
