3 What does It Look Like at a State Level? State Leadership: Governor’s Office Governor Perdue was Co-Chair of Common Core Standards Initiative Key role as champion and communicator State Leadership: Governor’s Policy Director State Superintendent Chancellor, USG Commissioner, TCSG Commissioner, Student Finance Executive Secretary, PSC Commissioner, Early Learning

4 Implications and Issues – Part 1 Need to be realistic Holds potential to decrease time to degree and raise graduation rates Risks underestimating the work Risks misleading students and their families about widening gap Need for understanding and buy in for implementation Recognition that HS seniors could meet ELA & Math standards and not be college ready. Other key factors of pre-collegiate study include: Science, History, Cultures, Language and the Arts.
