Writing expresses who you are as a person. Writing is portable and permanent. It makes your thinking visible. Writing is an essential job skill. Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged—in college, in the workplace, and in the community.

Academic writing is different from creative writing of journalistic writing avoid mixing up any of the two with these tips: Wrong Word Missing Comma after an Introductory Element Mechanical error with a quotation Spelling Unnecessary or Missing Capitalization Sentence Fragment

Writing is an art, and like any other art one must be properly trained to do so. Plagiarizing Using slang Over-quoting Being too verbose Not knowing your audience Avoiding an outline

Writing is an important form of communication. Good writers use different writing techniques to fit their purposes for writing. Description Through description, a writer helps the reader use the senses of feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting to experience what the writer experiences. Exposition Through exposition, a writer informs, explains, and clarifies his/her ideas and thoughts. Exposition goes beyond description to help the reader understand with greater clarity and depth the ideas and thoughts of the writer. Narration Through narration, a writer tells a story. A story has characters, a setting, a time, a problem, attempts at solving the problem, and a solution to the problem.

Persuasion Through persuasion, a writer tries to change a reader's point of view on a topic, subject, or position. Comparison and Contrast Through comparison and contrast, a writer points out the similarities and differences about a topic

Expository Writing: Expository writing is a subject-oriented writing style, in which the main focus of the author is to tell you about a given topic or subject, and leave out his personal opinions Descriptive writing: Descriptive writing is a style of writing which focuses on describing a character, an event or a place in great details.

Persuasive Writing: Persuasive writing, unlike ‘Expository Writing’, contains the opinions, biasness and justification of the author. Narrative Writing: Narrative writing is a type of writing in which the author places himself as the character and narrates you to the story.

Writing style is equivalent to personality. A writer may be known for his specific style, much like any other person is known for his unique characteristics. Expand your horizons on writing style. Avoid Wikipedia. It’s all about grammar and punctuation. Be flexible.
