She has developed a system that allows her to get all the narcotics she needs to feed her addiction from health care providers. Shelly goes to 6 different doctors, and is a regular patient at several local emergency rooms. Each doctor prescribes a narcotic for Shelly’s chronic pain, not knowing that she is also receiving narcotics from other area physicians. What might be done to assist Shelly, and to alert her physicians of how they are contributing to her addiction?

19 Question for Discussion Mary and George have been married for 52 years. They have vowed throughout their marriage that they would always take care of one another. Yet, for the past couple of years George has become more dependent on Mary for his daily care and Mary is no longer in the best of health. What community health services might Mary access that can assist both she and George? What if George deteriorates to the point where he cannot be maintained in the home?
