1)Area and demography: Area of 603km 2 including 19.7 km 2 of water inhabitants and 63 inhabitants per km 2 It is a medium city

1)Customs and traditions: Some customs to keep in mind: Punctuality is very important in Finland, you should arrive in advance at work or school Look people in the eyes is an evidence of honesty Even if you’re invited in a restaurant or anywhere else you always have to pay for you Shout out in public places is not estimated. Finnish people are very quiet Don’t forget to take off your shoes when you’re invited in someone’s house

II) Living in Seinäjoki 2) Transports The city is served by: A small airport with flights to Helsinki A railway station linked to the main towns(3h from Helsinki and 1h from Vaasa) The city is not so big so you can easily go to the town center and go to supermarkets from the student’s residence

II) Living in Seinäjoki 3) Cost of life Cost of life is about the same as in UK; VAT is 22 Transports are not expensive and are very comfortable (50 euros to go to Helsinki) Telecoms are not so expensive (sms are 6 cents/unit and internet is 10 euros/month) You need about 600 euros to live in Finland during one month

II) Living in Seinäjoki 4) The sauna The traditional Sauna is a wooden small room in which we throw some water on hot rocks in a stove, being sat down on benches. This is a national institution in Finland and it is one of the most enjoyed way of relaxation. There is one sauna per 3 inhabitants, it is to say 1.7 millions all around Finland

III) Going out in Seinäjoki

1) Practicing sport in Seinäjoki The national sport is hockey on ice. There are as much ice rings as football stadiums in western European countries. Seinäjoki proposes: Swimming Ice skating Skiing Hockey (on ice or with roller skates) Baseball Football Gyms Basketball Etc…

III) Going out in Seinäjoki 2) Entertainment: Different kind of entertainment such as: Hockey matches Theatre plays (in finnish) Cinema (in english) Art museum Etc…

III) Going out in Seinäjoki 3) Going out in the evening In Finland you have to be at least 18 to go to disco on Wednesday, at least 20 on Friday and at least 22 on saturday. There are numerous bars and 2 discos which close at 3h30 (national closing hour). Prices are about the same as in western Europe.
