FABLab Mahtomedi The FABLAB concept was founded by Neil Gershenfeld at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to provide access to manufacturing technology for students, small businesses, and budding inventors. A FABLAB (or Fabrication Laboratory) is a place where students will be able to design and make almost anything. It is a place that will empower students to produce new creations to solve current problems through experimentation, design, creativity, and innovation. Students use the latest fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, CAD programs, silhouette fabricators, 3D scanners and printers and milling machines to take their ideas from imagination to reality. Mahtomedi students are linked via Polycom to other FABLAB users around the world to facilitate the exchange of ideas and designs.

First FABLab in a public high school  MIT certified (must follow their charter)  HTM(a)A curriculum  5C’s Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Curiosity  FAB 101 –staff training opportunities  Memberships  Camps and clinics  Tinkerers of all ages welcome Additional information available on resource table

 Community approved bond  New facilities necessary to support engineering curriculum  Connected with Century’s FABLab  Engaged the community MAEF Gala Fund a Need 3M Foundation Advisory Board
