County Strategic Goal 7: To be responsible protectors of the environment. Waste and Resource Recovery’s Mission: To effectively and efficiently provide customers with high quality refuse, recycling, and related community support services while being responsible protectors of the environment.

Curbside Recycling Program 93,000+ eligible single family homes Cost of program - $1,889,781 ( Periodic revenue ) Set-out rate – 38% (bi-weekly) Participation Rate – 50% Tons collected 13,604 Cost Per Ton - $139 ( All costs associated with program )

Convenience Center Drop-off Recycling Program Program open to all County Residents Cost of Program - $42,600 Participation – Over 100,000 visits ( includes both sites ) Tons Collected – 1,131 Cost Per Ton - $36.78 ( CVWMA and County programs)

Other Recycling Programs Refrigerators, freezers and AC Units (Freon) Stoves, dishwashers, grills, etc. Net Revenue $126,883 ( includes gate fees - $93,000 ) Hauling Cost $6,040 Tons Collected 628

Used Tires Tons Collected – 121 Revenue Collected from Residents – $17,226 Contract Cost - $8,200

Used Oil Tons collected – 166 Revenue - $21,600 No Contract Cost

Used Oil Filters Tons Collected – 4 No Revenue Collected Contract Cost - $1,500

Used Batteries Tons Collected – 54 Revenue Collected - $3,026 No Contract Cost

Propane Tanks Units Collected – 508 Revenue - $508 No Contract Cost ( through CVWMA )

Household Hazardous Chemicals (A.K.A. – Safe Garage Program) Paints (Lead based and Latex) Pesticides Herbicides Corrosives Anti- Freeze Flammable Liquids Tons Collected – 52 Contract Cost - $60,050 Cost Per Ton - $1,155 ( based on commodities )

Looking to the Future

Too Good To Waste Residents are able to place gently used items in this area, as well as remove items for personal use. Estimated to keep at least 2 tons of waste out of the landfill a month

Electronic Recycling Computers, Televisions, Scanners, copiers, telephones, VCRs, DVD Players – (anything with a plug) FY09 tons collected 140 thru April 2009 FY09 estimated cost of program - $22,000

Textile Recycling Used clothes and shoes are accepted 10 Tons collected thru April 2009 No cost for this program

Other Scrap Metals Fencing, swing sets, filing cabinets and desks FY09 Tons collected – 40 thru April 2009 FY09 Net Revenue collected - $5,237 FY09 Hauling Cost - $1,900
