Tone encouraging, joyful, proud

Analysis “It is what brought us to America. We are a nation of immigrants. We are the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life, the driven ones, the ones who woke up at night hearing that voice telling them that life in that place called America could be better.” In this sentence Romney is stating that the immigrants that came to America for a better life and that we need to feel the same way they did.

Analysis “But today, four years from the excitement of the last election, for the first time, the majority of Americans now doubt that our children will have a better future.” Romney is stating that parents don’t have hope for their kids to have a good life and jobs. “But driving home late from that second job, or standing there watching the gas pump hit 50 dollars and still going, when the realtor told you that to sell your house you'd have to take a big loss, in those moments you knew that this just wasn't right.” Here Romney is stating that the way America is running is ridiculous. He wants to change the way we live. He wants us to be able to not worry about how we live anymore.

Main Idea “I will not raise taxes on the middle class.” Basically what Romney is trying to get across America is that he will not raise taxes on us. He wants to let us know he is going to improve our lives.

Ethos “In the days ahead, you will get to know Paul and Janna better. But last night America got to see what I saw in Paul Ryan – a strong and caring leader who is down to earth and confident in the challenge this moment demands.” This part of the speech provides credibility to Romney’s vice president by saying good things about Paul Ryan.

Pathos “My dad had been born in Mexico and his family had to leave during the Mexican revolution. I grew up with stories of his family being fed by the US Government as war refugees. My dad never made it through college and apprenticed as a lath and plaster carpenter. And he had big dreams.” Here Romney touches our emotions on how his dad had to grow up living in horrible conditions. It makes us want to make a change.

Logos “My mom and dad gave their kids the greatest gift of all – the gift of unconditional love.” Everyone knows that the greatest gift of all from your parents is love.

Repetition “To make that choice, you need to know more about me and about where I will lead our country.” “I will not raise taxes on the middle class.” “I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage. And I will guarantee America's first liberty: the freedom of religion.” Romney is basically stating everything that he is going to do for us.

Phrasing/Meaning “You might have asked yourself if these last years are really the America we want, the America won for us by the greatest generation.” Romney is stating: “Do you really want another 4 years like this?”

Powerful Lines “That America, that united America, can unleash an economy that will put Americans back to work, that will once again lead the world with innovation and productivity, and that will restore every father and mother's confidence that their children's future is brighter even than the past.” “If I am elected President of these United States, I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future. ”

Literary Devices Used unleash “That America, that united America, can unleash an economy that will put Americans back to work…” Romney used personification here. He said that America is going to “unleash” an economy. forging “we will make trade work for America by forging new trade agreements.” Again, Romney used personification by stating he is going to forge new trade agreements.

To Follow… Mitt Romney ended up losing the race to Barack Obama by a score of ,000,000 people voted for him.
