Revised Problems 1)Banana Plugs unable to withstand stress of CIP module and cord under 2)Physical connection problems between CIP and lock 3)Time consumption of walking to each door to program locks

New Plan Immediate Action – Check whether CIP module is within RS-232 specification – Make circuit diagram Short Term – Redesign CIP module CIP still connects to lock but not to laptop or palmtop Long Term – Be able to program locks wirelessly Bluetooth or Infrared

Operational Concept Change Request Upload to Palmtop PC Palmtop PC to Lock Verification Vanderbilt Card to PC

Programming Locks Hardware Host computer to store database of card access rules Module for sending data from computer to palmtop Palmtop to device to take to individual locks Module to send data from palmtop to lock Software Operating System for Host computer Database for storing card access rules Software syncing host computer with palmtop Operating system for palmtop device Software for sending data from palmtop to lock

Project Scope 1. Reverse Engineer CIP module 2. Redesign CIP module 3. Integrate Lock with Infrared or Bluetooth

Reverse Engineering CIP Why? – Need to determine type of serial communication – If within RS-232 standards we can easily interface RS-232 – Circuitry may just pass serial data in from RS-232 port and the rest be for the I-Button

Reverse Engineering CIP How? – Send Data through CIP by use of standard cable – Use Scope to measure voltages to see if they are consistent with RS-232 Standards – Use voltage levels and patterns to determine how the data goes from cable to pins

Next Steps Talk to Ken Pence and Tim Holman Install Locknetics Software on Laptop Get access to EE Lab Start research on RS 232 Begin reverse engineering process
