Citizens for a Greener Evanston The Goal: Reduce Evanston’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions 13 % by 2012

Citizens for a Greener Evanston (CGE) is a group of community members working together with the City to help Evanston reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and overall carbon footprint…..

Why 13%  Evanston signed the Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement in 2006, joining hundreds of other American cities that have pledged to 'meet or beat’ the Kyoto Protocol by reducing Green House Gas emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012  A 2007 inventory conducted by the City showed that in order to meet this goal, Evanston must reduce its GHG emissions 13% by  CGE is committed to this goal and we stand to make Evanston a better place live and to become a leader in this pledge.

How BIG is your footprint? Measuring the GHG you emit will also describe the amount you spend on energy Carbon Footprint = Energy related costs

Calculate your footprint Calculate your footprint Several excellent calculators exist to help you consider your carbon footprint – including Evanston's o wn!

Carbon Calculators 4 Elements Online calculators help measure carbon emitted at home, on the road and at the dinner table, while providing tips for reducing costs!

Caveat Emptor!  Calculating carbon output tremendously complicated, involving lots of equations  Different calculators may provide slightly different outcomes, depending on inputs and equations used  Consider calculations a rough approximation  For more robust results, employ several calculators, using the same imputs

Measure it Manually! No computer needed, just add energy bills!

LIHEAP & IHWAP  Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance (IHWAP) will evaluate your home's efficiency and make improvements  Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) will help pay heating, utility bills  Either program for households 150% of poverty level  More info: Visit cy.html
