The Great Marble Race Exploring Newton’s Laws of Motion

In this race, you and your partner(s) will be constructing a maze for a marble to run through. The purpose of this race is to see whose marble can complete the race the SLOWEST! The longer it takes, the better!

Requirements: 1.Your marble must start at the top of your foam board (cardboard) and end at the bottom. 2.You may not touch the marble (with your hands or any other material) during the race, except to start it. 3.You may use any recycled materials to construct your board, including (not limited to): toilet paper/paper towel tubes, straws, tape, glue, cotton balls, burlap, cardboard, paper, egg cartons, water bottles, carpet pieces. 4.You must prepare a written explanation of how your board uses all three of Newton’s Laws of motion. You will give your presentation after your race. Include the following vocabulary terms in your writing: acceleration, friction, force, gravity, motion.

Introduction: Nov. 11, 2015 (Bring supplies ASAP) Planning Day: Nov. 17, 2015 (after test) Days of Construction: Nov. 18, 2015 (after test) and Nov. 19 or 20, 2015 (You will not be given any more time, so plan carefully and work together) Race Day: Nov. 30, 2015 (after Thanksgiving Break)
