1 What is Blitzkrieg? Germans would strike lightning-quick with tanks, troops and airplanes leading to quick victory over its enemies.

2 Who were the Axis Powers? Japan, Germany, Italy

3 What was the first territory that Germany took over? Rhineland

4 What was the Munich Pact? After Hitler demanded the Sudetenland, British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlin met with German Chancellor, Adolf Hitler to agree that Hitler will no longer be aggressive.

5 Which countries were members of the Allied powers? Great Britain and the United States, Soviet Union, France

6 The United States responded to the growing totalitarian threat with a policy of? isolationism

7 How did Adolf Hitler respond to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles? he broke the treaty

8 What was the policy of appeasement? When Great Britain and France gave in to Hitler’s demands for control of the Sudetenland and allowed him to take over more land

9 Explain the Soviet Union and Germany’s relationship leading to the war and during the war. They signed a Non-Aggression Pact and agreed to invade Poland together. However, Germany eventually turned against the SU and they became enemies.

10 What country did Germany invade to begin WWII? Poland

11 What was the Battle of Britain? When Germany bombed London to try and get them to surrender. It was unsuccessful as Germany stopped advancing since it was unable to invade Britain.

12 What event caused the United States to enter World War II? The bombing of Pearl Harbor.

13 What was the Cash and Carry Policy? The U.S. will sell goods to our allies but they had to pay in cash and take them back to Europe on their own.

14 What was the Lend Lease Act? The U.S. was willing to let our allies borrow supplies they needed to fight in the war but expected payment later.

15 What was the goal of these two policies? They were how the United States tried to support the Allied powers while trying to appear neutral

16 What U.S. military base was attacked by the Japanese? Pearl Harbor

17 Why did the Japanese forces attack Pearl Harbor? The U.S. stopped trading oil and natural resources with Japan.

18 What event got America involved in WWII? The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor

19 Why did Hitler want access to North Africa? Control of the Suez Canal & Middle Eastern Oil

20 Why was the Battle of Stalingrad so important to the Allies? Considered the turning point in the war by many, this difficult battle between the Soviet Union and German forces was a devastating loss for German forces and allowed the Soviets to march toward Germany.

21 What battle led to VE-Day? Battle of Berlin

22 What was Island Hopping? The American strategy in the Pacific campaign, intended to avoid conflict with the Japanese and get closer to the mainland of Japan.

23 What was D-Day? The British and American invasion of Normandy, France to liberate it from German control and leading to the eventual end of the war in Europe

25 What were the 4 main island battles that helped United States get closer to victory in Japan? Midway, Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Iwo Jima
