Weather Watchers A Web Quest about how the weather affects us

Introduction: How does change affect us? At the end of the Web Quest you will be able to: Identify different types of weather Understand how the weather affects people Observe and predict weather Compare and contrast the weather here to other parts of the world. 2nd grade Content Standard 3: Students will develop an understanding of their environment. Objective 2: Observe and describe weather.

Process Your class will be split into 5 groups with 4 students in each group. Each group will be given a city in the world and will be watching the weather forecasts online for seven days. Each person in the group will have a different role to complete while learning about the weather in your city. Your group will come together at the end of the seven days and present to the class your finished presentation. You will be graded using the rubric at the end of the Web Quest.

Task: Grapher Your job is to examine the weather and temperatures in the seven day forecast. You are to make a pictograph (table) using Microsoft word and clip art to show how many days were sunny, windy, rainy, snowy etc. Print out pictograph to present with group. Task: Tourist Look at the temperatures for the seven day forecast and decide what kind of clothing you would wear each day if you were visiting during this week. (examples: shorts, pants, tee shirt, swimsuit, snowsuit, coat, umbrella, sandal, boots) You will use clip art in Microsoft word to put together outfits for each day of the week and print them out to present with your group. Next decide what activities you would participate in depending on the type of weather and the temperature. (examples: skiing, swimming, hiking, boating) Use clip art pictures to show the activities you will participate in for each day and print them out to present with your group. Task: Forecaster Look at the weather patterns for the seven day forecast Now decide what you think the weather will be like in the next seven days by looking at what the temperature and weather has been in the previous seven day forecast. You will use clip art in word to show your forecast predictions and will print and share them will the class Click here to create forecast

Task: Relater Your job is to compare and contrast the weather in Springville, Utah the past seven days to your group’s city. Use a Venn diagram to help answer the following questions in Microsoft Word and print them out. Was the weather the same? If so, how? Was it different, how? What were the temperatures like here in Utah? What were the temperatures like in your group’s city? Was it cooler or warmer in Utah? How would you dress? Would you wear the same type of clothing?
