THE LORD’S PRAYER Matthew 6:5-14

The Text: Matthew 6:5-14 5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth; they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9“This, then, is how you should pray:’ Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Four Kingdoms Most biblical scholars have concluded that the four kingdoms beginning with Nebuchadnezzar, mentioned in the "statue vision" of chapter 2, are identical to the four "end-time" kingdoms of the vision in chapter 7, and consider them to representstatue vision (1) Babylonia, (2) Media, (3) Persia, and (4) Greece (i.e. Macedonia)

Biblical Scholars Gold Head identified as Nebuchadn ezzar and his kingdom in v i.e. Babylon Silver Breast and arms kingdom of Media Bronze Belly and thighs kingdom of Persia Iron Legs kingdom of Greece Feet and toes partly of iron and partly of baked clay Syria and Egypt Kingdom of God handed over to the people (Jews) of the Most High Deliverance of Jews The End

Some Historicist Christians (e.g. Young, Smith, Anderson, etc.) believe that the first four should be identified as (1) the Neo- Babylonian empire, (2) the Medo-Persian empire (3) the Macedonian empire of Alexander and his successors, and (4) the Roman empire Parallel sequence of prophetic elements as understood by Historicists The Past We are here The Future Head Gold (Babylon) Chest & 2 arms Silver Belly and thighs Bronze 2 Legs Iron 2 Feet with toes Clay & Iron Rock God's unending kingdom left to no other people

The Apostle Peter Reminded us to know who we are and remember Jesus is coming soon to take us home Let us read 1Peter 2:1-12 Do you know who you are? V 5: We are a living stone and a holy people V 9: We are a chosen generation to show his excellence V 1: Put away all malice, and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slanders but long for spiritual milk that you may grow up into salvation V 12: live a good lives, live a honorable lives not religious lives
